Shindig (n): An elaborate or large dance, party or other celebration.
When you come to Branson this April and May, you’ll discover firsthand the fun and entertainment of a down-home shindig. Kick up your heels, clap your hands and sing along as the Ozarks come alive with the sounds of music – from over 100 live shows and events.
Take a trip to mountain country and discover an old-style party full of traditional Ozark foods, culture and entertainment – along with the Ozarks’ world-famous hospitality. For two months, the Live Music Show Capital of the World is putting on one big area-wide celebration, and you’re invited to the shindig.
The Ozark Mountain Shindig is comprised of numerous fantastic events, including the Branson Elvis Festival, a Shindig Shopping Spree, kayaking on Lake Taneycomo, Savor the Flavors (with entertainers preparing their favorite dishes and snacks), a Hootenanny in the Park, impromptu concerts and so much more.
And if you really want to get into the swing of things, you can be a part of a world record attempt as partygoers will line Highway 76 to do the Shindig Shuffle. In an attempt to set the record for the biggest line dance, people are encouraged to learn the dance (see video below) be in town on May 28 for the get-together.
“This isn’t just any old song and dance,” says Cindy Merry, marketing chair for the Branson Show League, “it’s something fun for all ages with a unique combination of musical genres that really reflects the dynamic and diverse nature of Branson’s musical scene while still paying homage to the musical roots of the Ozarks.”
