“The art of making art,” wrote Stephen Sondheim, “is putting it together.” And each year in Sedona, visitors get a unique opportunity to see just how local artists put their work together.
The Sedona Chamber of Commerce has consistently named the Open Studios Tour as one of their 10 annual Signature Events. During this free weekend, visitors can talk with the artists, experience their working environments and purchase art. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Verde Valley while touring from one studio to the next.
There will be a wide variety of mediums, including: glass, ceramics, oil, mixed media, digital art, fiber, photography, jewelry, watercolor, wood and sculpture. The diversity of style, quality and mediums is a testament to the thriving vitality of the arts community in the Verde Valley.
One of the pleasures of shopping at a studio sale, whether for your own collection or for gift, is the ability to spend time with the artists and to see how and where a piece of art is made. Artists love to explain their creative processes, show off their work spaces and make a personal connection with their buyers. For the customer, this experience can make the artwork speak more intimately to them and give them an opportunity to gain a much deeper appreciation of the creative process.
